PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 1 Jakarta has closed 27 illegal crossings out of a total target of 49 level crossings, equivalent to 55.10 percent progress in 2026. “This effort is a concrete step by KAI to improve the safety of train journeys and the public,” said KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo in Jakarta on Saturday. On Friday (12/6), KAI Daop 1 Jakarta closed the level crossing at KM 119+4/5 Kampung Odel, Kasemen Village, Kasemen District, Serang City, Banten. At the location, a permanent closure was carried out by installing four barrier posts using used railway sleepers painted red and white as a no-crossing sign. During the activity, train operations continued to run smoothly without disruption. KAI Daop 1 Jakarta continues to coordinate with local governments, regional authorities, and the community in implementing the level crossing closure programme. “Through the closure of crossings, we strive to prevent potential accidents that could cause fatalities or greater losses,” he said. He then expressed appreciation to all parties who have supported the implementation of this level crossing closure. “Good support and collaboration from all parties is key to realising a safer, more orderly, and secure railway environment for everyone,” said Franoto. KAI Daop 1 Jakarta urges the public not to reopen access that has been closed and not to create new illegal crossings. The public is also expected to use available official crossings and always prioritise safety when carrying out activities around railway tracks.
