KAI Introduces Women-Friendly and Inclusive Services, Making Travel Safer and More Comfortable for All
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Travel by train is increasingly integrated into the daily lives of the public today. From morning commutes to work, journeys home during Eid, to weekend travel plans, all take place in the same space. In that space, safety and comfort are essential parts of the customer experience.
From January to March 2026, KAI Group served 128,055,072 customers, an increase of 9.97% compared to the same period the previous year. This figure demonstrates how trains are becoming the choice for various travel needs.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the continuously developing services are directed to meet the increasingly diverse needs of customers.
“KAI continues to provide services that are responsive to public needs, from women-friendly facilities, child-friendly access, to disability-friendly amenities,” said Anne.
Long-distance and local train services served 14,515,350 customers, an increase of 18.40% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, Commuter Line served 101,382,889 customers, an increase of 8.11%.
“Every day, millions of people in various cities rely on the Commuter Line to travel from home to work, school, and back,” explained Anne.
Growth is also evident in various other services. LRT Jabodebek served 7,754,946 customers, KAI Bandara 1,755,275 customers, LRT Sumsel 1,084,242 customers, Whoosh 1,408,815 customers, and the Makassar–Parepare train 75,421 customers.
Amid this movement, KAI continues to maintain service quality by providing facilities that support customer safety and comfort.
Various women-friendly facilities are available, such as women’s-only carriages on the Commuter Line and LRT Jabodebek at certain times, as well as separate men’s and women’s toilets on long-distance trains. Through the Access by KAI app, female customers can also select seats near other women via the female seat map feature.
For pregnant women, priority seats, dedicated counters, and pregnant mother pins are available. At stations, KAI provides 120 lactation rooms to support comfort during travel.
For customers with children, kids’ play areas are available at several stations, priority seating, and family-friendly evacuation routes. Meanwhile, for people with disabilities, various facilities such as guiding blocks, ramps, lifts at major stations, and priority seats on the Commuter Line continue to be strengthened.
From a security perspective, KAI is also enhancing surveillance systems through strengthened operational standards, integration of the Command Centre with the Contact Centre, and the use of CCTV Analytics at stations and trains.
“We continue to strengthen systems and surveillance, while encouraging customers to look after our shared space so that travel remains safe and comfortable,” added Anne.
From January to March 2026, there were 20 complaints related to sexual harassment on Commuter Line services. This data is a concern for ongoing improvements, including through strict enforcement of rules and support for victims until legal processes are completed.
“Safe travel comes from maintained systems and collective care. We want every customer to feel more at ease from departure until arrival at their destination,” Anne concluded.
