Subang (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) held a ceremony for planting productive trees based on agroforestry in Subang Regency, West Java, on Friday (24/4). This activity is part of the KAI Go Green programme, while also affirming the company’s commitment to sustainable environmental management. The ceremony was organised by KAI together with the local government, environmental communities, and the local community. Attending the event were Deputy Regent of Subang Agus Masykur Rosadi and Founder of Yugma Foundation Suherlan MS. During the event, KAI planted 4,500 trees on 18 hectares of land consisting of aren, durian bawor, and avocado trees. This planting is designed not only to maintain environmental balance but also to provide long-term economic benefits for the surrounding community. Director of Strategic Planning and Risk Management at KAI, Wilman Sidjabat, stated that this activity is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its contribution to the environment while building direct involvement of KAI personnel in the field. “We carry out this activity as part of efforts to decarbonise while also serving as a learning space for KAI personnel. We want to be directly involved, understand the process, and ensure that this planting can yield optimal results, both in terms of production and carbon absorption,” said Wilman. The selection of Subang as the location for the activity is based on accessibility and ease of monitoring. The location, which is relatively close to Jakarta and Bandung, allows for regular monitoring activities so that environmental benefits can be maintained sustainably. This step aligns with the sustainability transformation that the company continues to develop. From January to March 2026, the KAI Group served 128,055,072 passengers, an increase of 9.97% compared to the same period the previous year, with improving energy efficiency. Throughout 2025, KAI has planted 6,989 trees in various operational areas. Cumulatively, in the 2021–2025 period, the total number of trees planted has reached 108,008 trees across Indonesia. “We hope this activity can provide long-term benefits and continue to develop through collaboration with various parties, so that environmental sustainability can go hand in hand with the mobility needs of the community,” Wilman concluded.
