KAI Holds Tahlil and Collective Prayers for Victims of East Bekasi KRL Accident
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) held a tahlil and collective prayer at East Bekasi Station on Monday (4/5/2026) as a gesture of respect for the deceased victims and a form of moral support for affected passengers and families. The event was attended by the board of directors, commissioners, and the extended KAI family, serving as a moment of togetherness amid ongoing recovery efforts. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the tahlil and prayers were intended to pray for the souls of the deceased victims and to give strength to passengers still undergoing treatment. “For those still in treatment, we hope they are granted swift recovery and can return to their normal activities,” he said. He added that KAI would continue to accompany passengers and families until the entire handling process runs smoothly. “This loss is a shared grief. KAI will continue to be present to accompany, ensuring that treated passengers receive the necessary care until they recover,” he said. The series of activities included recitations of Yasin and tahlil, a sermon, and the laying of flowers as a form of respect for the victims. KAI commissioners and directors also laid flowers as an expression of condolences and respect for the victims. Support from the public continues to flow through prayers and direct presence at the location. This serves as a strengthening for passengers and families in undergoing the recovery period. In this process, KAI ensures comprehensive accompaniment through ongoing medical services, psychological support, and coordination of needs for passengers and families at every stage of recovery. For information, on Monday night (27/4/2026), the Argo Bromo Anggrek train collided with an electric rail train (KRL) that was stationary. The incident immediately caused panic and hysteria among passengers on both trains and at the station platform. The strong collision caused the Argo Bromo Anggrek locomotive to enter the rear KRL carriage, resulting in severe damage. The women’s special carriage suffered the most severe damage. Several passengers inside struggled to evacuate because the exit was blocked by iron, jammed seats, and many severely damaged parts of the carriage. As a result of the incident, 16 people died.
