Entering its 81st year, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues its transformative journey to provide transportation services that increasingly serve the public. This long journey has been built through service development, technological innovation, and a commitment to environmental sustainability.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the 81st anniversary serves as a momentum for KAI to reflect on the company’s journey while preparing steps towards the future.

“Railways have been part of the Indonesian people’s journey for decades. Entering its 81st year, KAI continues to grow alongside the community through service innovation and operational management that prioritises sustainability,” said Anne.

Between January and August 2026, the KAI Group served 351,602,397 passengers, an increase of 7.09 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. This figure demonstrates the role of railways in supporting various public activities, ranging from daily commutes and intercity mobility to business and leisure travel.

In line with service growth, KAI is also developing various environmental programmes as part of the company’s transformation. In the field of clean energy, KAI has operated 113 Solar Power Plant (PLTS) units across 92 locations, with a capacity reaching 4,430.65 kWp. The use of solar energy contributes to a reduction in carbon emissions of more than 5,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

Furthermore, since 1 July 2026, KAI has begun implementing the use of Biodiesel B50, which contributed to an emission reduction of approximately 9,000 tonnes of CO₂e within 55 days.

“Transportation growth must go hand in hand with environmental responsibility. KAI continues to develop innovations so that public travel becomes more comfortable while supporting a greener future for transportation,” said Anne.

The philosophy of the 81st anniversary logo depicts the spirit of growth, transformation, and sustainability. The shape of the number 81 represents the company’s long journey that continues to move forward, from experience towards transformation and towards a greater future.

Through the spirit of ‘Semakin Melayani’ (Increasingly Serving), KAI continues its journey to provide rail transportation that is increasingly relevant to the needs of the community and the changing times.
