From January to May 2026, 166.15 million passengers used KAI Group’s electric urban rail services, with an estimated emission reduction of around 15,350 tonnes of CO₂e compared to private vehicles. Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that electric train services play a crucial role in meeting the need for efficient, integrated, and low-emission urban transport. “Electric urban trains provide direct benefits to the public. Journeys become more predictable, capacity is large, and emissions per passenger are far lower than private vehicles,” she said. The LRT Jabodebek served 13,211,856 passengers during the period, a 23.16 percent increase from the same period in 2025. It produces approximately 15 grams of CO₂e per passenger-kilometre, significantly lower than motorcycles at 37 grams. The Commuter Line Jabodetabek, the backbone of daily mobility in the region, carried 146,259,555 passengers, up 5.81 percent year-on-year. BRIN research indicates it emits around 34.03 grams of CO₂ per passenger-kilometre, compared to 42 grams for cars. The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line served 1,013,574 passengers, a 14.78 percent rise, while the Yogyakarta Commuter Line carried 3,854,340 passengers, up 7.88 percent, supporting movement between Yogyakarta and Solo. In South Sumatra, the LRT served 1,815,017 passengers, connecting residential areas, business centres, universities, the Jakabaring sports complex, and Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport. The system uses a 750 V DC third rail, enabling emission-free operation. Anne added that strengthening electric urban transport is part of KAI Group’s commitment to low-emission mobility, noting that every passenger switching to electric public transport helps reduce daily transport emissions.
