PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded a strengthening of its core business performance throughout the first half of 2026. According to KAI Group’s unaudited financial reports, revenue reached Rp17.96 trillion, a 6.61 per cent increase compared to Rp16.85 trillion in the first half of 2025. This revenue growth was accompanied by an 18.81 per cent rise in gross profit, from Rp5.72 trillion in H1 2025 to Rp6.79 trillion in H1 2026. During the same period, operating profit increased by 25.79 per cent, rising from Rp3.71 trillion to Rp4.66 trillion.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that these achievements demonstrate the continued strengthening of KAI Group’s core business activities, driven by service growth, increased productivity, cost management, and synergy across all company entities. She noted that this strong performance provides the necessary capital to maintain travel safety, infrastructure readiness, and service quality for the public.

Throughout the first half of 2026, KAI Group served 258,993,359 passengers, a 7.55 per cent increase from 240,805,920 passengers in the same period in 2025. These services included Public Service Obligation (PSO) schemes, pioneer trains (KA Perintis), government assignments, and commercial services. Approximately 90.79 per cent of these passengers were part of the PSO and government-mandated services, highlighting KAI Group’s vital role in providing affordable public transport.

In addition to passenger services, freight transport significantly supported KAI’s business activities. In H1 2026, KAI transported 32,498,043 tonnes of goods, consisting of 26,534,095 tonnes of coal and 5,963,948 tonnes of non-coal commodities. These services support the distribution of strategic commodities for energy, industry, plantations, and logistics. To bolster capacity, 1,080 flat wagons arrived to strengthen freight capacity in Sumatra, and the company developed the Brumbung Cargo service with a capacity of up to 800 tonnes per train.

Regarding the financial position, KAI Group’s total assets as of 30 June 2026 were recorded at Rp104.79 trillion. Total liabilities reached Rp65.11 trillion, a decrease from the position on 31 December 2025 of Rp66.14 trillion, while total equity increased from Rp39.29 trillion to Rp39.69 trillion. Current assets also rose from Rp19.40 trillion at the end of 2025 to Rp21.04 trillion by 30 June 2026.

In the first half of 2026, KAI Group recorded a profit before tax of Rp842.69 billion and a profit for the period of Rp314.03 billion. While the change in current profit was influenced by an increase in recorded net losses from associates and joint ventures, the core business activities continued to show growth in revenue, gross profit, and operating profit. KAI continues to align its corporate steps with the SOE transformation agenda alongside Danantara Indonesia, focusing on productivity, efficiency, governance, and technological modernisation.
