Managing Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, Bobby Rasyidin, stated that the management will follow up on President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions regarding the reorganisation of settlements around railway tracks. The three main steps being taken are inventory or data collection of settlements, securing railway areas, and collaboration with relevant ministries.

“We are coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions, as well as with other ministries and parties for long-term steps,” Bobby said in a written statement on Friday, 27 March 2026.

These steps are being taken after Prabowo visited a settlement around the railway tracks near Pasarsenen Station on Thursday, 26 March 2026. He also greeted several residents and conveyed a commitment to building decent housing for all communities.

After Pasarsenen, the reorganisation will also be expanded to all railway tracks managed by KAI. The President emphasised the need to prepare structured housing solutions through collaboration with relevant ministries.

KAI, according to Bobby, also plays a role in improving the living standards of the community through more structured area reorganisation, connected to economic centres, and strengthening access to economic opportunities around the railway tracks. “The reorganisation of settlements around railway tracks is an important part of providing a more decent environment for the community while strengthening railway journey safety,” he said.

According to KAI data, the company manages more than 327 million square metres of railway land that has potential to support housing development. In the Jabodetabek region, the development potential reaches around 131,000 housing units located around transportation nodes.

Previously, KAI began building 2,200 units of apartments around Manggarai Station on Monday, 16 March 2026. In addition, there are also apartment projects in Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya. The housing that will be available stands on KAI-owned land and to support the 3 million homes programme.
