KAI Expresses Condolences as 5 Die in Accident Involving Argo Bromo Train and KRL in East Bekasi

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has expressed profound condolences over the accident involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line on the Bekasi–Jakarta route at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday evening (27/4/2026). The incident has impacted train operations on the route and resulted in fatalities and injuries. Citing Kompas.com on Tuesday (28/4/2026), the death toll from the event has risen to five people. KAI stated that all 240 passengers on the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were successfully evacuated safely. The evacuation process was carried out in an integrated manner with Basarnas, TNI, Polri, and on-site medical teams. Meanwhile, handling efforts are focused on the affected KRL passengers. To date, 38 KRL passengers have been taken to several hospitals, namely RSUD Bekasi, Primaya Hospital Bekasi Timur, Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, and RSU Bella Bekasi, for further medical treatment. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, conveyed apologies for the incident. “Our focus right now is to ensure all victims receive the best handling. We are also continuing to coordinate with all relevant parties to ensure the handling process runs smoothly,” she said in a press release received by Kompas.com on Tuesday. Alongside the handling at the location, KAI is adjusting the KRL train operation patterns so that services can continue gradually according to the track conditions. For passengers on the Argo Bromo Anggrek train route from Surabaya Pasar Turi to Gambir, KAI has prepared bus services as onward transportation to Gambir Station. In addition, several long-distance train services departing from Gambir and Pasar Senen stations have been temporarily suspended to support the handling process and ensure operational safety.
