KAI Ensures Victims of East Bekasi Incident Are Handled, Opens Information Post
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has ensured that all victims affected by the incident in the East Bekasi Station area have been evacuated and are receiving medical treatment, while preparing an information post to help families obtain updates on passengers.
“We extend our deepest condolences for this incident and our apologies to all customers. Our current focus is to ensure that all victims receive the best possible care and to continue coordinating with all parties so that the handling process runs smoothly,” said KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba in a written statement quoted in Jakarta on Tuesday.
KAI stated that all 240 passengers on the Argo Bromo Anggrek train have been successfully evacuated safely.
Meanwhile, the handling is focused on the affected KRL passengers. Based on preliminary data updates as of 02:00 WIB, four people have been recorded as deceased and 79 injured.
KAI noted that all victims have been evacuated and are receiving treatment at several referral hospitals, including RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam East Bekasi, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga East and West Bekasi.
In the handling process, KAI is coordinating with Basarnas, TNI, Polri, and medical teams to provide assistance and ensure all victims are cared for.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the evacuation process is being carried out maximally, prioritising victim safety.
“We are focusing on evacuation efforts and victim handling with all our strength. For the cause of the incident, we are leaving it to KNKT for a more in-depth investigation,” Dudy said.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said all victims have received medical treatment and the evacuation process has been carried out maximally.
“Currently, four people are recorded as deceased and 79 injured. We have taken all victims to hospitals to receive the best care. We continue to carry out evacuations and ensure all victims receive help as quickly as possible,” Bobby said.
KAI has also handed over the investigation process to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to ensure the cause of the incident can be thoroughly identified.
Regarding train operations, KAI stated that as of 01:04 WIB, the downstream track from Bekasi to Tambun has been reopened, while the upstream track is still in the evacuation and handling process.
KAI is adjusting KRL train operation patterns according to track conditions so that services can resume gradually.
Additionally, affected train passengers are given a policy of full ticket refunds with a submission period of up to seven days ahead.
For Argo Bromo Anggrek train passengers on the Surabaya Pasarturi-Gambir route, KAI has prepared onward services in the form of buses to Gambir Station.
KAI stated that all long-distance train services from Gambir and Pasar Senen Stations are temporarily halted to support the handling process and ensure travel safety.
The list of cancelled long-distance train services up to the latest update includes several services on 27 April 2026, such as KA Gunungjati, Parahyangan, Argo Muria, Mataram, Gumarang, Singasari, Jayabaya, Manahan, Progo, Argo Anjasmoro, and Tawang Jaya Premium.
Meanwhile, on 28 April 2026, cancellations include KA Gunungjati, Purwojaya, Madiun Jaya, Argo Sindoro, Mataram, Gumarang, Singasari, Jayabaya, Manahan, Progo, Argo Anjasmoro, and Menoreh.
