KAI Ensures Maintenance of Seven KRL Trainsets to be Completed Gradually until October 2026
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), known as KAI, together with PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero), or INKA, is continuing maintenance on seven KRL iE305/CLI 225 trainsets to ensure fleet readiness in supporting Jabodetabek Commuter Line operations. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin conducted a working visit to INKA’s facilities in Madiun to personally oversee the progress of the maintenance and coordinate the acceleration of the work with relevant parties.
During the visit, Bobby ensured that the maintenance process for the seven KRL ielE305/CLI 225 trainsets is proceeding according to target, while prioritising safety and reliability. KAI is ensuring that coordination between all related parties continues to maintain the readiness of the Jabodetabek Commuter Line services, which serve the public’s mobility needs.
“KAI ensures that every maintenance process is carried out according to applicable safety and reliability standards. The readiness of Jabodetabek Commuter Line services is our primary concern given the high demand for public mobility,” Bobby stated in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (16/09/2026).
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, explained that the maintenance of the seven KRL iE305/CLI 225 trainsets is being conducted gradually alongside INKA, KAI Commuter, and other relevant parties. The process includes system inspections, technical component checks, and safety assessments before the trains are returned to service.
Anne explained that one KRL iE305/CLI 225 trainset is currently in the final stages of inspection and is targeted to be ready this week. Subsequently, the remaining six trainsets will be completed in stages, with a target of three trainsets finished by 25 September 2026 and the final three by 9 October 2026.
“Every trainset that has completed the full series of inspections and is declared ready will be handed over to KAI Commuter to support Jabodetabek Commuter Line services according to operational requirements,” said Anne.
Anne added that KAI is ensuring the ongoing collaboration between KAI Commuter, as a subsidiary of KAI, and INKA to complete the maintenance of the seven trainsets within the established timeframe. This collaboration is a vital part of maintaining the readiness of the Jabodetabek Commuter Line to support regional mobility.
“Thorough inspections are conducted to ensure that every trainset returning to operation meets safety standards, equipment reliability, and the operational needs of the Jabodetabek Commuter Line,” she continued.
Anne noted that the Jabodetabek Commuter Line is one of the primary transportation services for the public, with mobility levels steadily increasing. In the last decade, the number of Jabodetabek KRL users rose from 257 million passengers in 2015 to 401 million in 2025. From January to August 2026, the number of passengers has reached 277.2 million.
Anne stated that this increase in mobility has gone hand-in-hand with the development of the Jabodetabek KRL service network. The number of stations increased from 71 stations in 2015 to 85 stations in 2026 to support public travel needs.
KAI, Anne continued, ensures that the fleet maintenance process is ongoing through coordination between KAI, INKA, KAI Commuter, and relevant parties. Every stage of the work is directed towards maintaining the operational readiness of the Jabodetabek Commuter Line, prioritising passenger safety.
“KAI, together with all relevant parties, will continue to maintain the quality of Jabodetabek Commuter Line services through fleet readiness and continuous evaluation in accordance with applicable safety standards,” said Anne.
