KAI Ensures All Medical and Funeral Costs for Victims Are Covered
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has ensured that all medical treatment costs up to funeral expenses for the deceased victims in the collision incident between a Commuter Line train and a long-distance train at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, on Monday (27/4) night, will be fully covered.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, assured that all victims of the operational incident are receiving maximum care.
“KAI emphasises that all medical treatment costs for the injured victims and funeral costs for the deceased victims will be fully covered by insurance and KAI,” said Anne in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In the incident, 240 passengers of the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train were safe. Meanwhile, six KRL passengers were recorded as deceased and 80 others sustained injuries, who are currently receiving medical treatment.
The treatment is being carried out at several healthcare facilities, including RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga Bekasi Timur and Barat.
KAI has conveyed its commitment to providing full support to the victims and affected families, including ensuring that the handling process runs quickly, accurately, and coordinated with all relevant parties.
The evacuation process took quite a long time because there were still surviving victims who required careful handling. Medical teams, Basarnas, and KAI teams continue to strive maximally to provide the best assistance to all victims.
In addition, KAI has set up an Information Post at Bekasi Timur Station to help families obtain information regarding passengers.
For the time being, Bekasi Timur Station is not serving passenger boarding and alighting, and KRL services are only available up to Bekasi Station.
KAI has expressed condolences and apologies to all customers.
“We convey our deepest condolences for this incident and apologies to all customers,” said Anne.
“Our current focus is to ensure that all victims receive the best care and continue to coordinate with all parties so that the handling process runs well,” added Anne.
