PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Divre I Sumatera Utara confirms that freight transportation services will continue to operate normally during Lebaran 2026, which is scheduled to run from 11 March to 1 April. This step is taken to ensure the smooth flow of logistics distribution and the availability of energy supplies in North Sumatra (Sumut) as public mobility increases. Acting Public Relations Manager for KAI Divre I Sumut, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, explained that the railways’ role is not limited to passenger pilgrimage services but also serves as the backbone of regional economic stability through the commodity supply chain. “Freight operations are running at full capacity to support economic activity. This consistency is important so that basic needs and key commodities remain available amid the peak of the migration flow,” he said on Thursday (5/3). One of the main priorities is the shipment of fuels. KAI operates up to three trips daily, carrying 48 wagons with a total capacity of 1,632 kilolitres. The distribution serves strategic routes from Labuhan to Kisaran and Siantar. “The reliability of energy distribution is key to ensuring road transport and residents’ activities are not disrupted during the Idulfitri celebration of 1447 H,” he said. Throughout February 2026, KAI Divre I North Sumatra recorded freight volumes of 55,428 tonnes, dominated by BBM at 26,616 tonnes. This logistics distribution is also supported by shipments of 19,994 tonnes of containerised cargo and 8,045 tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) to meet industrial and export needs. Anwar added that the company is committed to balancing passenger and freight services. The main focus remains on safety, security, and reliability across all service lanes. “KAI Divre I Sumatera Utara continues to strive to ensure that all train journeys run smoothly. With logistics distribution preserved, we hope that the public can observe Ramadan and undertake Lebaran exodus comfortably without disruptions to essential goods supply,” said Anwar. Awareness to avoid active tracks is essential to protect lives and to ensure smooth railway operations. Ticket booking opened on 25 January 2026 for departures starting 11 March 2026. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Divre I North Sumatra records that 7,296 passengers have been dispatched to various destinations up to this midday. For travellers intending to go to Lake Toba, Siantar Station remains the preferred gateway for continuing by road to Parapat. From Labuan Station in Medan, at least 1,020 kilolitres of BBM types Pertamax, Pertalite, and Bio Solar are dispatched daily to Siantar.
