KAI Develops Manggarai TOD, Strengthens Jakarta Mobility Hub Integration

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is developing the Manggarai Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) area in South Jakarta, strengthening integration between the station, pedestrian connectivity, intermodal transfers, public spaces, housing, and urban activity.

Manggarai Station currently serves around 162,000 passengers per day with approximately 700–750 train journeys daily.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the high level of mobility is a key reason for KAI to develop the Manggarai area in a more integrated manner.

“Manggarai plays a major role in the mobility of the Greater Jakarta community. Therefore, its development needs to view the station and the surrounding area as a single unit so that intermodal transfers, pedestrian access, and community activities become increasingly connected,” said Bobby.

KRL passenger activity with gate-in at Manggarai Station was recorded at 5,142,739 passengers in 2023, rising to 5,575,711 passengers in 2024, an increase of around 8.42 percent. In 2025 the figure reached 5,456,309 passengers, while January–June 2026 has already reached 2,716,932 passengers.

Manggarai’s role is also reinforced by the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line service. The service carried 1,970,531 passengers in 2023, rising to 2,242,536 passengers in 2024, and increasing again to 2,346,934 passengers in 2025. Specifically at Manggarai Station, 230,314 passengers were recorded throughout January–June 2026.

Overall, the Manggarai TOD area has a delineation of approximately 129 hectares, of which around 64 hectares is KAI-owned land. Its development is being carried out in stages and is directed at strengthening connectivity with the KRL Commuter Line, Airport Commuter Line, TransJakarta, Manggarai Terminal, and the planned Jakarta LRT.

“KAI wants to ensure that mobility growth in Manggarai is accompanied by increasingly better area connectivity. The goal is for the public to find it easier to use public transport and carry out their daily activities,” Bobby concluded.
