KAI Demolishes Illegal Structures Along Pasar Senen–Pasar Gaplok Railway

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 1 Jakarta has demolished 38 stalls and 57 illegal buildings along the railway track between Pasar Senen and Pasar Gaplok stations to maintain train travel safety. The clearance also aims to ensure the railway’s right-of-way and operational space function properly. “The area around the tracks must remain sterile from buildings and activities that could endanger the public and disrupt train travel safety,” said Franoto Wibowo, Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, on Sunday. The operation, carried out on Saturday (27/6) through to today, involved KAI Daop 1 Jakarta working alongside government authorities and other relevant parties to demolish structures in the railway area, followed by the removal of debris to make the corridor more sterile, orderly, and safe. Franoto stated that track clearance and area enforcement are part of KAI’s commitment to maintaining train travel safety, particularly in areas with the potential to disrupt operations. The activity also included the relocation of 183 individuals from 57 families who had been living along the tracks to the government-prepared Hunian Senen housing complex. He explained that the clearance effort is not only focused on the physical arrangement of the area but also serves as a preventive measure to minimise potential hazards around the railway line, such as public activities too close to the tracks, the presence of unauthorised structures, and objects or materials that could interfere with train journeys. He added that KAI Daop 1 Jakarta is committed to continuously conducting supervision, arrangement, and track clearance in railway areas as part of efforts to improve train travel safety. “Through this activity, it is hoped the railway corridor between Pasar Senen and Pasar Gaplok stations will become more orderly, sterile, and supportive of smooth train operations,” he said.
