PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area (Daop) 8 Surabaya is anticipating potential extreme weather, including high-intensity rainfall that could lead to flooding in several areas of East Java. The company is tightening supervision, particularly of railway lines and operations, in flood-prone areas.

KAI Daop 8 Surabaya emphasised that passenger safety and comfort remain the top priority. Extreme weather conditions not only have the potential to affect rail operations but also access routes to stations, which could result in traffic congestion, flooding, or delays in connecting transport.

Passengers are advised to arrive at stations earlier than usual during periods of uncertain weather to avoid missing their trains. “We urge passengers to manage their travel time to the station, especially during heavy rain or potential flooding. By arriving early, passengers can avoid the risk of delays and travel safely and comfortably,” said Reynold Parulian Napitupulu, Acting Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 8 Surabaya.

To anticipate and manage operational travel, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya is continuously monitoring weather conditions in coordination with relevant agencies such as the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and local authorities. Proactive measures include increased periodic monitoring of rail lines, particularly at points prone to flooding, and the deployment of standby officers at various stations and operational areas. Coordination with related parties is also being strengthened to accelerate response times should disruptions occur, ensuring any potential risks are handled swiftly and appropriately.
