The return flow of Eid transport in the KAI Daop 8 Surabaya region is beginning to show an increasing trend. Based on preliminary data on Monday (23/3), the number of passengers using train services is projected to reach 50,027 people, consisting of 27,294 arrivals and 22,733 departures.

“That figure still has the potential to increase as the travel schedule continues into the evening,” said the Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, in Surabaya on Monday (23/3).

This increase in passenger volume serves as an early indicator of public movement back after celebrating Eid in their hometowns. The three stations with the highest passenger volumes on this day (23/3) are Surabaya Gubeng Station with 14,934 passengers (6,290 boarding and 8,644 alighting), Surabaya Pasarturi Station with 13,927 passengers (6,268 boarding and 7,659 alighting), and Malang Station with 7,048 passengers (2,935 boarding and 4,113 alighting).

Cumulatively, during the Eid transport period from 11–23 March 2026, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya has served 576,373 passengers, consisting of 314,302 departures and 262,071 arrivals. This high mobility reflects public trust in train transport as a safe, comfortable, and punctual mode.

KAI Daop 8 Surabaya predicts the peak return flow will occur on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, with a projection of 49,783 passengers, consisting of 28,511 arrivals and 21,272 departures.

“Nevertheless, ticket availability for various dates and routes is still sufficient and can be utilised by the public. We have also anticipated the surge in return flow by ensuring optimal operational readiness and services across all lines,” he said.

His side observes that the trend of increasing return flow has already begun and is estimated to peak on 24 March 2026. KAI Daop 8 Surabaya has undertaken various preparations to ensure all customers are served well, from infrastructure readiness to service optimisation at stations.

In addition to ensuring operational readiness, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya is also presenting various attractive programmes to support public mobility. One of them is a 30% discount programme for Commercial Economy Train tickets valid from 14–29 March 2026. Of the total 188,288 tickets provided, 140,417 tickets have been sold or about 75%, leaving around 47,000 tickets available for customers.

Not only that, to liven up the Eid moment, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya is also presenting the “Tabur Berkah Hari Raya” programme through partial fare promotions for several long-distance train journeys to Yogyakarta and Semarang. This programme applies to departure periods from 22 to 30 March 2026 with a total availability of 21,411 executive class seats.

To ensure journeys remain smooth and comfortable, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya urges customers to arrive early at stations and not too close to departure time. Customers are also advised to consider alternative travel schedules or utilise connecting train schemes for time flexibility.

“We also remind all customers to travel according to the route stated on the ticket and not exceed the travel route, to maintain order and collective comfort,” he said.

This programme applies to departure periods from 22 to 30 March 2026, with a total availability of 21,411 executive class seats that customers can utilise.

Each passenger is allowed to bring luggage up to 20 kg or 100 dm³ volume (maximum dimensions 70x48x30 cm) without additional fees per passenger.

Throughout 2025, 23 throwing incidents were recorded in the Daop 8 Surabaya region. Meanwhile, from January to February 2026, 7 similar incidents have occurred.

Public interest in trains as the main mode of transport during Eid is always high every year.
