Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Regional Operations (Daop) 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, stated that passenger mobility using trains remains quite high as the Eid holiday period draws to a close in 2026.

“Society is starting to return to their respective home cities for work and activities, so mobility is still high,” said Mahendro when confirmed by ANTARA in Surabaya, East Java, on Friday.

He explained that the number of passengers during the return flow of Eid 2026 on Friday is projected to reach 47,958 people, consisting of 27,641 arrivals and 20,317 departures. This figure could still increase until the end of the day.

His side also recorded the three stations with the highest passenger volumes, namely Surabaya Gubeng with 13,998 passengers, Surabaya Pasar Turi with 13,580 passengers, and Malang with 7,536 passengers.

Meanwhile, during the Lebaran transport period from 11 to 27 March 2026, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya has served 792,790 passengers.

“This number consists of 407,931 departing passengers and 384,859 arriving passengers,” he said.

He added that the peak return flow occurred on Tuesday (24/3) with the number of passengers reaching 57,210 people in one day.

Therefore, said Mahendro, long-distance train ticket sales to date have reached 477,739 tickets or about 85 percent of the total capacity for the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026.

Furthermore, Mahendro added that to support public mobility, KAI is offering a 30 percent discount on commercial economy class train tickets for the period from 14 to 29 March 2026, with a total of 188,288 tickets.

At present, he said, 148,631 discounted tickets have been sold, or about 79 percent, so around 39,000 tickets are still available.

In addition, his side is also presenting the “Tabur Berkah Hari Raya” programme in the form of partial fare discounts for trips to Yogyakarta and Semarang during the period from 22 to 30 March 2026.

“We urge customers to arrive earlier to avoid travel delays,” he concluded.
