PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 7 Madiun, East Java, is supporting the provision of disability-friendly transport facilities and services as part of its effort to realise inclusive railway services. This support is demonstrated through various conveniences for persons with disabilities, including a reduced fare and services involving trained officers to assist customers while at the station. “Children with disabilities have the same right to express themselves. Through the National Children’s Day theme ‘Love Children, Protect and Build the Future’, KAI is committed to providing safe, comfortable, and disability-friendly transportation,” said KAI Daop 7 Madiun Public Relations Manager Tohari in Blitar on Thursday. KAI provides a 20 per cent fare reduction for long-distance train journeys for passengers with disabilities who have registered by attaching a doctor’s certificate. Additionally, inclusive services are supported by the ability of frontline staff, such as customer service officers and ticket officers, to communicate using sign language to assist deaf customers. During the event, students were also given a space to showcase their talents, including a choir performance by deaf children, a fashion show by children with intellectual disabilities, and a martial arts demonstration by deaf children. KAI Daop 7 Madiun also educated participants on the travel process using trains, from ticket purchasing and boarding procedures to the application of safety rules during the journey. Through these efforts, KAI Daop 7 Madiun hopes to deliver transport services that are increasingly safe, comfortable, and easily accessible to all members of the public, including persons with disabilities.
