KAI Daop 6 Serves 142,000 Passengers on First Day of "Long Weekend"
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - PT KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, on the first day of the “long weekend” period for the Labour Day commemoration, recorded high societal mobility utilising long-distance rail transport, reaching 142,025 long-distance train (KA JJ) passengers. “This figure is the cumulative total from 72,000 departing passengers and 70,025 arriving passengers at various stations in the Daop 6 region,” said PT KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta’s Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih in Yogyakarta on Friday. According to her, the high passenger movement figures indicate that trains are the preferred mode of transport for the public during the long holiday period, whether for vacations or family gatherings. “To anticipate the passenger surge during the May ‘long weekend’ period, KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta has prepared seven additional train services to increase carrying capacity, effective from 1 May 2026,” she said. “The addition of train services is one strategic step to accommodate the high public interest in rail transport, while ensuring smooth passenger distribution without significant congestion at stations or en route,” she added. Feni stated that KAI Daop 6 continues to optimise services across various aspects, from the readiness of facilities and infrastructure, improvements in station services, to strengthening travel safety elements. “We also urge all passengers to arrive early at the station, comply with applicable rules, and safeguard their personal belongings,” she said.
