KAI Daop 6 Prepares Additional Trains for May Long Holiday Period
PT KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, on the first day of the long weekend holiday period coinciding with Labour Day, recorded high mobility of the public utilising long-distance trains. KAI reported 142,025 customers using long-distance trains.
“This figure is the cumulative total from 72,000 departing passengers and 70,025 arriving passengers at various stations in the Daop 6 region,” said the Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih, as quoted from Antara on Friday, 1 May 2026.
She assessed that the high number of passenger movements indicates that trains have become the preferred mode of transport for the public during the long holiday period. “To anticipate the surge in customers during the May long weekend period, KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta has prepared seven additional train journeys to increase carrying capacity, effective from 1 May 2026,” Feni stated.
She said that in May, with three potential long holidays, KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta is committed to providing safe, comfortable, and on-time transportation services for all customers.
“The addition of train journeys is one strategic step to accommodate the high public interest in rail transport, while ensuring smooth passenger distribution without significant build-ups at stations and en route,” Feni remarked.
She stated that KAI Daop 6 continues to optimise services across various lines, from readiness of facilities and infrastructure, improvements in station services, to strengthening travel safety aspects. “We also urge all customers to arrive early at the station, comply with applicable rules, and safeguard their own belongings,” Feni added.
Here are the six stations with the highest departure passenger volumes based on data from Friday, 1 May 2026: Yogyakarta Station with 33,438 passengers, Lempuyangan Station with 18,780 passengers, Solo Balapan Station with 10,766 passengers.
Then Klaten Station with 2,843 passengers, Purwosari Station with 2,717 passengers, and Wates Station with 1,429 passengers.
Meanwhile, the additional trains operated by Daop 6 Yogyakarta during the May 2026 long weekend period include, from Solo Balapan Station: additional train Solo Balapan-Bandung (7011C), additional train Solo Balapan-Bandung (7013C), additional train Solo Balapan-Gambir (7005).
Then from Lempuyangan Station: additional train Lempuyangan-Pasarsenen (7039). Whereas from Yogyakarta Station: additional train Yogyakarta-Gambir (7007C), additional train Yogyakarta-Gambir (7009C), and KA Sancaka Yogyakarta-Surabaya Gubeng (88B).
