PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 6 Yogyakarta handled 1,075 items belonging to passengers that were left behind on trains or in station areas during the first half of 2026, with a total estimated value of Rp1.16 billion.

KAI Daop 6 Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih stated that all found items were processed according to the ‘Lost and Found’ service procedure to ensure security and peace of mind for customers. ‘The Lost and Found service is a form of KAI’s commitment to ensuring that passengers’ left-behind items are handled safely, orderly, and transparently. As of the first half of 2026, 99.07 percent of found items have been processed,’ she said.

She detailed that the 1,075 items found during the first six months of 2026 consisted of 376 valuable items (such as gadgets, wallets, electronic goods, and important documents), 677 ordinary items, and 32 food items. Of the total, 743 items were successfully returned to their owners, 319 items were handed over to the Social Service and the Police in accordance with regulations, 3 items were destroyed, and the remaining 10 items are still undergoing administrative write-off procedures.

Feni noted a surge in the volume of lost items compared to the first half of 2025, with an increase of 69.03 percent from 636 items in the same period last year. Despite the increase in the number of items, the total nominal value of the findings actually decreased by 14.12 percent (around Rp191.7 million), from Rp1.35 billion in the first half of 2025 to Rp1.16 billion in the first half of 2026. On the other hand, the effectiveness of handling lost items recorded a positive trend, with the resolution rate rising by 3.47 percent, from 95.60 percent in the first half of 2025 to 99.07 percent in the first half of 2026.

Amid the increasing frequency of item discoveries, KAI Daop 6 urged all train service users to be more careful and to always double-check their belongings before leaving the train or the station area. ‘We urge customers to always re-check their belongings, especially valuables. However, if an item is left behind, customers can immediately report it to KAI officers at the nearest station or contact the KAI 121 Contact Centre so that it can be followed up according to the Lost and Found procedure,’ Feni said.
