KAI Daop 6 and Yogyakarta City Government Distribute Electric Rickshaws to Pedicab Drivers

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has collaborated with the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Provincial Government and the Yogyakarta City Government to distribute Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) assistance in the form of 50 electric rickshaw units to local pedicab driver associations. The handover took place at the Motor Vehicle Testing Unit, Yogyakarta City Transportation Office, on Wednesday (3/6/2026).

EVP KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Bambang Resptiono, stated that this programme is a tangible manifestation of the company’s commitment to supporting the development of a modern, environmentally friendly transport ecosystem in Yogyakarta. “This electric rickshaw assistance is part of KAI’s TJSL programme, which is oriented towards sustainability, environmental preservation, and community economic empowerment,” Bambang said following the event.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the programmes of the DIY Provincial Government and the Yogyakarta City Government to implement low-emission transport modes to support the tourism sector while preserving local wisdom. According to Bambang, beyond the environmental aspects, the programme is expected to improve the welfare of pedicab drivers through operational efficiency. “We hope this assistance can lighten the drivers’ workload, increase tourist comfort, and strengthen Yogyakarta’s image as an environmentally conscious cultural city,” he added.

KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager, Feni Novida Saragih, added that the distributed electric rickshaws maintain local values within a modern concept. “The use of these electric rickshaws is expected to serve as an eco-friendly transport solution while supporting the comfort of tourists visiting Yogyakarta City,” said Feni.

Through this programme, KAI reaffirms its role not only as a railway transport operator but also as a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) that contributes actively to regional development and the improvement of the quality of life for communities within its operational areas. The Mayor of Yogyakarta, Wasto Hardoyo, along with local government officials and representatives from the DIY Provincial Government, were also present to witness the handover.
