KAI Daop 3: Beware of Online Ticket Scams Exploiting PayLater, Know the Modus Operandi
PT KAI Operational Area (Daop) 3 Cirebon has urged the public to be increasingly vigilant against various modes of fraud in online train ticket transactions. One such scam exploits the victim’s own PayLater facility.
The scam works by persuading victims who intend to travel by train to purchase tickets using the PayLater facility, allowing payment to be made in instalments.
In the transaction, the victim is directed to buy the ticket using PayLater but with the perpetrator’s identity. Once the ticket is successfully issued, the perpetrator then cancels it via the Access by KAI application.
The refund for the cancelled ticket then goes to the perpetrator, while the PayLater instalment obligations remain attached to the victim’s account as the owner of the payment facility.
This situation leaves the victim suffering a financial loss, as the victim must continue paying instalments for a transaction whose refund was received by another party.
“We urge the public to be cautious if anyone asks to use their PayLater facility to buy train tickets, especially if the ticket uses the identity of the person asking for help,” said Muhibbuddin, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 3 Cirebon, on Monday (14/9/2026).
He said the public needs to understand that PayLater transactions remain the responsibility of the account owner. For that reason, the facility should never be used by another party, which could then cause losses for its owner.
