PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 2 Bandung has confirmed that all train journeys in its operational region have resumed safely and normally following the earthquake in Pangandaran on Wednesday evening. KAI Daop 2 Bandung Public Relations Manager, Kuswardojo, explained that the company immediately carried out a comprehensive inspection after the event. “As a commitment to railway travel safety, we previously took swift action by temporarily halting a number of train services on several routes. Our officers then conducted a detailed inspection of all rail lines, bridges, tunnels, switches, signalling systems, and other operational infrastructure,” he said on Thursday. Based on the inspection results, the company confirmed there was no damage to the railway infrastructure or operational facilities. “All infrastructure, including rail lines, bridges, and tunnels, as well as operational facilities, have been declared safe and no damage was found, so train journeys can be resumed while continuing to prioritise safety aspects,” Kuswardojo stated. He added that the temporary suspension of train services is a standard procedure that must be carried out whenever an earthquake occurs, which could potentially affect the condition of railway infrastructure. KAI also apologised to all affected customers for the temporary disruption. “We apologise for the inconvenience experienced by our customers. The temporary suspension was carried out as a form of KAI’s responsibility to ensure all infrastructure is truly safe before trains are operated again. Customer and journey safety is non-negotiable,” he added.
