KAI Compartment Suite passenger numbers rise 79% in January–April 2026
16,315 passengers used the private and premium travel service, an increase from 9,097 in the same period of 2025. JAKARTA (ANTARA) - Travel is increasingly seen as an experience to be enjoyed with more calmness and quality. Many are choosing transportation modes that allow for relaxed, comfortable journeys with space to rest. Amid this shift, PT Kereta Api Indonesia’s (Persero) Compartment Suite service has shown significant growth. KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, said the Compartment Suite service is increasingly sought after by those desiring higher levels of comfort and privacy during travel. Between January and April 2026, the service catered to 16,315 passengers, a 79.35% increase compared to the same period in 2025 when 9,097 passengers used it. The growth continues a positive trend from the previous year. Throughout 2025, Compartment Suite passenger numbers reached 42,118, a 47.80% increase from 28,496 in 2024. ‘The travel trends of the public are shifting. Many passengers want to enjoy a more comfortable journey, with private space during travel, and to relax during the trip,’ said Anne Purba. Anne added that train travel is increasingly popular as it offers a complete travel experience. Passengers can enjoy changing scenery along the route, from rice fields and mountains to urban areas and rural landscapes encountered during the journey. For some passengers, this ambiance is a highlight of long-distance travel. The calmer pace allows them time to rest, read, enjoy meals, work, or simply take in the views from the train window. The Compartment Suite service features private compartments offering a more personal and exclusive travel space. Each cabin is designed with a modern and elegant aesthetic, equipped with ergonomic chairs that can be electrically reclined up to 140 degrees, allowing passengers to rest more comfortably during the journey. The travel experience is enhanced by premium facilities including personal entertainment systems, free WiFi, USB charging ports, private power sockets, ambient lighting, multifunctional folding tables, complimentary food and beverages, premium pillows and blankets, and professional train attendants throughout the journey. According to Anne, the rise in premium service passengers shows that the public is increasingly focused on the quality of their travel experience. Holidays are now seen as time to enjoy the journey more leisurely without rushing. ‘Many passengers want to enjoy the journey from the moment of departure. Trains provide a more comfortable and peaceful travel environment, allowing passengers to take in the scenery more freely,’ Anne added. The Compartment Suite service is currently available on several of KAI’s premium trains, including the Bima Compartment Suite, Argo Bromo Anggrek Compartment Suite, and Argo Semeru Compartment Suite, serving popular routes across Java. KAI advises the public to plan trips in advance and book tickets via the Access by KAI app or other official channels to ensure a comfortable and smooth journey during holiday periods.
