KAI Commuter Responds to Unauthorised Recording Incident at Sudirman Station

PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KAI Commuter) has responded to a distressing incident involving the unauthorised recording of a passenger at Sudirman Station, Central Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon (13/8).

Manager Public Relations of KAI Commuter, Leza Arlan, stated on Friday that the incident occurred around 5:02 p.m. local time. Upon arriving at Sudirman Station, the victim immediately reported the matter to security officers and demanded that the perpetrator delete the video recording.

Leza explained that the victim reported the incident as soon as she realised she was being secretly recorded by another passenger. Upon receiving the report, security officers at the gate area swiftly apprehended the suspect and supervised the deletion of the video footage from the perpetrator’s mobile phone.

Leza emphasised that KAI Commuter is committed to continuously evaluating and improving its services, particularly in handling and preventing acts of harassment within the public transport environment. ‘As a public transport operator, KAI Commuter continues to strive to maintain user comfort so that no one commits acts that harm fellow Commuter Line users. In relation to harassment-related behaviour, we also ensure that we side with the victim,’ Leza asserted.

The company also urged all Commuter Line users to maintain mutual comfort, respect fellow passengers, and not hesitate to immediately report to officers in the station area or on the train if they experience or witness any actions that disturb public comfort.

A video previously went viral on social media via the Instagram account @kabar_banten, showing a suspected perpetrator recording a female passenger. ‘The action was noticed by the victim, who then reprimanded the perpetrator. The man tried to flee, but the victim’s shouts attracted the attention of security officers. The perpetrator was eventually secured. When his phone was checked, a video recording believed to have been made without the victim’s permission was found,’ the account wrote.
