KAI Commuter: Passengers Permitted to Break Fast on KRL Trains During Ramadan
KAI Commuter has introduced a special regulation permitting passengers to break their Ramadan fast during journeys throughout Ramadan 1447 Hijriah, in order to provide comfort for Commuter Line electric rail (KRL) users when the time for breaking fast arrives.
KAI Commuter Vice President of Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said users are permitted to break their Ramadan fast with light food and beverages when the time for iftar arrives whilst aboard the train.
"To break fast on the Commuter Line, users are encouraged to consume only light food and beverages in moderation, and to avoid food or drinks with strong odours for the sake of shared comfort," Karina said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Karina added that staff will announce the time for breaking fast both on board the Commuter Line and within station areas.
Additionally, KAI Commuter provides water station facilities offering free drinking water dispensers available to all users, who may use their own drinking bottles (tumblers).
During the month of Ramadan, Commuter Line service operations in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) and Yogyakarta areas will continue to run normally. For the Jabodetabek Commuter Line, KAI Commuter operates 1,065 services daily from 04:00 to 24:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
The Commuter Line Basoetta service runs 70 daily services, whilst the Commuter Line Merak operates 14 daily services.
Meanwhile, the Yogyakarta–Palur Commuter Line will continue to operate 27 daily services during Ramadan, along with 10 daily Commuter Line Prameks services.
Karina urged Commuter Line users to be disciplined in maintaining cleanliness and shared comfort by not discarding litter carelessly, including food and beverage packaging waste from breaking fast on the train.
"Passengers are encouraged to take their rubbish with them and dispose of it in the bins available at their destination station," she said.
KAI Commuter expressed its hope that all users will follow the applicable regulations and show respect for fellow passengers.
