KAI Commuter Increases KRL Train Schedules for Solo-Yogyakarta Region During 2026 Eid Holiday
KAI Commuter is preparing enhanced transport services for the 2026 Eid holiday in the Solo-Yogyakarta region by increasing the frequency of electric rail trains (KRL) and passenger capacity. This measure is being taken to anticipate a surge in public mobility during the Eid homecoming and return travel period in the Islamic year 1447 Hijriah/2026.
Karina Amanda, Vice President of Corporate Secretary at KAI Commuter, stated that the volume of commuter train users in Yogyakarta Area VI is expected to increase during the Eid holiday period. The company projects passenger numbers to reach approximately 678,576 people, representing an increase of around 3 per cent compared to the same period last year.
“During the Eid holiday period, the volume of Commuter Line Yogyakarta users typically increases,” said Karina at Solo Balapan Station on Monday, 16 March 2026.
To anticipate this surge, KAI Commuter is adding journeys on the Commuter Line Yogyakarta-Palur route service. The number of journeys, originally 27 daily services, will be increased to 31 journeys on 20-21 March and 25-29 March 2026.
“During the peak period of 22-24 March 2026, the number of journeys will be increased further to 34 daily services,” Karina explained.
Meanwhile, the Prameks Commuter Line service will remain operational at 10 journeys per day. With these adjustments, the combined daily transport capacity in Area VI is estimated to reach approximately 51,956 passengers during the Eid transport period.
Based on KAI Commuter data, the number of passengers at the beginning of the 2026 Eid transport period from 11-15 March reached 114,763 people. Of this figure, 102,848 people were Commuter Line Yogyakarta-Palur users and 11,915 people were Prameks users.
To ensure safe and smooth operations, KAI Commuter has undertaken various technical preparations since early February 2026. These preparations include ramp checks and inspections of Minimum Service Standards (SPM) for train facilities and station amenities.
“KAI Commuter is operating six train sets for the Yogyakarta Commuter Line service and two sets for Prameks, including spare equipment,” she stated.
She added that the company has also mobilised 371 frontline officers comprising drivers, conductors, passenger service staff, and station security personnel. Additionally, KAI Commuter has added 15 mobile customer service officers at several major stations, including Yogyakarta Station, Lempuyangan Station, Klaten Station, Purwosari Station, Solo Balapan Station, and Palur Station. To enhance passenger comfort, KAI Commuter has also added queue tent facilities at Lempuyangan Station.
“We urge users to plan their journeys well through the official application and to prioritise safety whilst in station areas and on the train,” she said.
