Jakarta (ANTARA) - KAI Commuter reported a disruption to Commuter Line 1978A on the Duri-Tangerang route, causing the train to halt at the RT 01/RW 11 level crossing in Rawa Buaya, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon.

“The disruption affected the overhead line, which had to be de-energised, rendering the Duri-Rawabuaya section impassable,” said KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan in a statement on Tuesday evening.

The company apologised for the incident. Joint teams were immediately deployed to the site for rapid response and line normalisation.

“Commuter Line 1978A will be coupled with Commuter Line 1980A to Rawa Buaya Station’s track three for further inspection,” he added.

Due to the evacuation and overhead line de-energisation, several Duri-Tangerang commuter services experienced operational adjustments and delays.

KAI Commuter urged passengers to remain calm, follow on-site staff instructions, and prioritise safety.

“Updates will be provided regularly via official social media @commuterline, the C-Access app, and call centre 121,” Arlan concluded.

“I heard an explosion. It went boom, the train stopped, then started again, boom, stopped, started, boom, stopped again. Not long after, the train halted completely. The explosion came from inside the commuter train, with a ‘dug’ sound,” Tasya (25) told reporters at the scene.

The explosion also caused the lights inside the carriage to go out. Passengers became hysterical during the incident.

Due to the event, Tasya and some other passengers chose to disembark out of fear of further incidents.

“I was travelling from Kampung Bandan to Tangerang. I got off here (RT 01/RW 11 level crossing). The train doors opened,” Tasya said.

Another passenger, Butar (45), stated he was in carriage three when the explosion occurred.

“I was in carriage three and heard an explosion from there. Three times, around 5pm,” Butar said.

He immediately moved from carriage three to the front after the explosion. Along with some other passengers, Butar chose to stay inside the carriage until the train could move again.
