KAI Cirebon anticipates second wave of returnees
Cirebon (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daerah Operasi (Daop) 3 Cirebon, West Java, is anticipating a potential surge in the number of passengers returning to their hometowns or pemilir during the second wave of the return flow, expected to occur on 28-30 March 2026. The Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 3 Cirebon, Muhibbuddin, in Cirebon on Friday, stated that this surge is triggered by the resumption of school activities on 30 March 2026, which is expected to increase public mobility. “The peak arrival of mudik passengers occurred on 19 March 2026, with 11,395 customers arriving in the Daop 3 Cirebon area,” he said. He mentioned that the peak return flow was recorded on 22 March 2026, with 13,748 passengers departing from stations in the area. Based on this, his side continues to take anticipatory measures to address the potential passenger surge during the second wave of the return flow. He explained that during the 16-day Eid transport implementation, Daop 3 Cirebon has served 273,002 railway passengers. Of that number, he said, 122,555 passengers departed from stations in the Daop 3 Cirebon area, while 150,447 passengers were recorded as arriving or alighting in the area. During the 2026 Eid Transport period, his side operated 2,539 train journeys with safe and smooth operational conditions. He also noted that all train journeys during that period were recorded without disruptions or zero accidents, thus providing a sense of security for passengers. “The on-time performance (OTP) showed optimal results with a 100 percent accuracy rate for train departures and arrivals,” Muhibbuddin stated. He added that the OTP improvement is part of efforts to create a better travel experience for railway service users. His side also expressed appreciation to the public who have entrusted their mudik and return journeys to the train. “This achievement reflects our role as a public transport provider that continues to be relied upon by the public during the Eid mudik and return flow season,” he said.
