KAI Chief Provides Update on Karet and BNI City Station Merger Schedule
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is set to merge Karet Station and BNI City Station in the near future. The President Director of KAI, Bobby Rasyidin, revealed that the plan is targeted for completion in the fourth quarter of this year. “It will be soon this year; our priority is to make it as comfortable as possible. We will see at the end of the year, November or December,” he stated when met at the DPR RI building in Jakarta on Monday.
As previously noted, the merger of the two stations was originally planned for December 2025 but has not yet been realised. Rasyidin mentioned that the development of travelator facilities—flat escalators similar to those found in airports—will be implemented to ensure passenger comfort. “We will make it as comfortable as possible for passengers in the Greater Jakarta area,” he added.
Previously, the Director General of Transport and Multimodal Integration (DJITM) at the Ministry of Transportation, Risal Wasal, stated that the unification of Karet and BNI City stations would only occur once the construction of supporting facilities is complete. “We are waiting for all supporting facilities to be finished before passengers board at BNI City Station. We will not rush, for the sake of passenger comfort and safety,” Risal said in Jakarta.
The merger of the two stations is being carried out to realise the Dukuh Atas Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area, which will integrate four rail-based modes of transport. The area has been designed so that the public can easily transition from one mode to another at Dukuh Atas, Sudirman, or BNI City stations.
Regarding the merger of Karet and BNI City stations, and to support connectivity, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) will construct a connecting corridor between the two stations. “Karet will not be closed, but will be connected to BNI City Station. Therefore, from Karet Station towards BNI City, I have requested KAI to build a corridor,” explained the official.
