KAI CEO Inspects Lebaran Services in North Sumatra, Ensures Smooth and Comfortable Customer Journeys
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to ensure the smooth operation of Lebaran transportation services in various operational areas, including North Sumatra. The flow of mudik (homecoming) and return journeys during this year’s Lebaran period shows even movement, with high travel activity also occurring in the Division I North Sumatra area. KAI’s President Director, Bobby Rasyidin, conducted a direct inspection in the Division I North Sumatra area on Monday, 23 March 2026. The activity focused on Medan Station as one of the main mobility hubs for customers in North Sumatra. Upon arriving at Kualanamu Airport, Bobby continued his journey using the KA Bandara Srilelawangsa to Medan Station while directly inspecting the airport train service. This check was carried out to ensure operational readiness and smooth connectivity between the airport and Medan city centre during the Lebaran transportation period. During the period from 11 to 23 March 2026 at 12:00 WIB, the KA Bandara Srilelawangsa service recorded a passenger volume of 150,830 customers. This figure consists of 91,602 customers on the Binjai route and 59,228 on the Kualanamu route. This achievement highlights the important role of the airport train in supporting public mobility, especially in connecting the airport to the city centre during Lebaran. At Medan Station, Bobby directly checked customer services, departure and arrival flows, and station facility readiness. Throughout the 2026 Lebaran transportation period from 11 March to 1 April 2026, Division I North Sumatra recorded ticket sales of 161,712 tickets. Rail services in Division I North Sumatra are currently served by several trips, including KA Putri Deli, KA Siantar Ekspres, KA Sribilah Fakultatif, KA Sribilah Utama, and KA Datuk Belambangan, which connect various cities and support public mobility during the Lebaran period. Bobby stated that the presence of management in the field is an important part of ensuring services run according to established standards. “Customer movement during Lebaran in North Sumatra shows a positive trend. This reflects public trust in rail services that continue to maintain their quality,” said Bobby. “KAI is committed to ensuring all journeys proceed safely, comfortably, and on time through strengthened operational oversight and field staff readiness,” he added. “Every journey during Lebaran carries stories and hopes. KAI is present to ensure every customer can return to their loved ones safely, comfortably, and with peace of mind,” Bobby concluded.
