KAI Boosts Bogor Line Capacity for 12-Car Train Services

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and the Directorate General of Railways under Indonesia’s Ministry of Transport are enhancing service capacity through Bogor Station development and Bogor Paledang Station connectivity improvements. During a site inspection of platforms 6, 7, and 8 on 1 June, KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said accelerating the work is crucial to meet growing commuter demand. ‘Alhamdulillah, platform development for lines 6, 7, and 8 is ahead of schedule. This is positive news as service capacity can be quickly increased to address rising mobility needs on the Bogor Line,’ he said. The platform extensions, started on 15 April 2026 and due for completion in July 2026, will support 12-car Commuter Line trains (SF12) with higher capacity. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba noted steady passenger growth: 102 million in 2022, rising to 133 million in 2023, 146 million in 2024, and 155 million in 2025. By April 2026, passenger numbers reached 51.9 million. Over three years, growth totalled 52.9 million passengers, a 51.9% increase. Purba added the Bogor Line has become a backbone of Jabodetabek mobility, with rising demand for service capacity at stations and on trains. Commuter Line users are predominantly working-age (91%), with 52% travelling for work or school. 42% are private sector employees and 55% earn up to Rp5 million per month. Bogor Station, a key hub for millions of annual passengers, sees growing activity. In 2025, gate-ins totalled 18.2 million and gate-outs 18.2 million, up from 2024’s 17.1 million and 17.3 million. January-April 2026 saw 6.1 million gate-ins and 6.0 million gate-outs. The station handles 392 weekday and 373 weekend Commuter Line services, making it one of the busiest in the Jabodetabek network. Mobility growth in Bogor has strengthened connections to surrounding areas. Passengers can now transfer to Sukabumi via Bogor Paledang Station’s skybridge, linking Commuter Line to KA Pangrango trains, and integrating with Trans Pakuan and JR Connexion services. This connectivity is reflected in rising Pangrango passengers: 786,001 in 2023, 874,789 in 2024, and 1.1 million in 2025, with 281,659 served in Q1 2026. The growth underscores stronger Bogor-Sukabumi mobility via rail. Platform extensions for lines 6, 7, and 8 will support SF12 operations, optimising passenger distribution during peak hours. New canopies connected to station walkways are being built to improve comfort during transfers and waiting. Current work includes reinstalling overhead electrical line poles and constructing new platforms, done gradually while ensuring safety and service continuity. KAI and KAI Commuter are managing passenger flow, optimising staff services, and providing real-time travel updates during construction, with adjustments during peak periods to maintain station mobility.
