KAI Blacklists 19 Passengers for Sexual Misconduct on Trains
Jember, East Java (ANTARA) — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has imposed firm sanctions on more than a dozen passengers who committed indecent acts aboard trains, in line with its commitment to providing public transport services that are safe, comfortable and free from all forms of sexual harassment.
“KAI applies a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of sexual harassment at stations and on trains,” said Cahyo Widiantoro, Law and Public Relations Manager of Operational Region (Daop) 9, in Jember on Friday.
According to him, KAI gives no quarter whatsoever to perpetrators of sexual harassment. Should such an incident occur at a station or on a train, its officers are ready to assist victims through to the process of reporting to law enforcement.
“The safety and comfort of passengers is our top priority, which is why KAI imposes firm sanctions on perpetrators of sexual harassment,” he said.
As a demonstration of this firmness, he continued, KAI also applies administrative sanctions in the form of blocking the perpetrator’s National Identity Number (NIK), or blacklisting, for those proven to have committed indecent acts.
“Throughout 2026, a total of 19 passengers have been placed on the blacklist, meaning they can no longer purchase train tickets anywhere within KAI’s operational areas,” he said.
All of the perpetrators were male, and the incidents took place on board trains, after which officers followed up and accompanied the victims in reporting the matter to local police.
He said that to date there have been no indecency cases within the working area of KAI Daop 9 Jember, which stretches from Pasuruan to Banyuwangi, and it is hoped this situation can be maintained through synergy among all parties — officers, communities and rail passengers alike.
“We invite all passengers not to hesitate to report to officers if they witness or experience any acts that point towards sexual harassment. Every report will be followed up swiftly, professionally and in accordance with prevailing regulations,” he said.
Cahyo explained that KAI Daop 9 Jember continues to strengthen its commitment to creating public transport services that are safe, comfortable and free from all forms of sexual harassment.
“As a concrete expression of that commitment, together with the Railfans Community of Daop 9 Jember (KRD 9), we held an anti-sexual-harassment campaign and socialisation event at Jember Station,” he said.
Some 20 KRD 9 members, together with KAI officers, educated prospective passengers in the station waiting area through posters, educational banners and the distribution of keychains bearing messages encouraging people to be brave enough to refuse and report all forms of sexual harassment within the railway environment.
The event was also made interactive, inviting passengers to sign a joint commitment banner as a symbol of support for the creation of a safe transport environment free from sexual harassment.
“The enthusiasm shown by passengers demonstrates that concern for this issue continues to grow and that it is a shared responsibility,” he said.
