Jakarta — The subholding of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and Angkasa Pura Indonesia, namely PT Railink or KAI Bandara, will provide 637,000 seats during the Lebaran 2026 transport period from 11 March to 1 April to anticipate a surge in public mobility. Porwanto Handry Nugroho, President Director of KAI Bandara, said the capacity is prepared through operation of up to 94 airport train journeys per day in two main regions, Yogyakarta and North Sumatra. ‘Lebaran is the period of highest movement in a year. The provision of 637,000 seats is our full preparedness to ensure services remain reliable, safe and on time,’ he said, according to a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday. In the Yogyakarta region, KAI Bandara operates the YIA Rail service with 50 trips per day, consisting of 26 YIA Xpress trips and 24 YIA Reguler trips. The total capacity in that region reaches around 275,000 seats, comprising 114,000 YIA Xpress seats and 161,000 YIA Reguler seats. Meanwhile in North Sumatra, KAI Bandara provides around 361,000 seats, consisting of 239,000 seats on the Srilelawangsa line Medan–Binjai–Kuala Bingai and 122,000 seats on the Medan–Kualanamu line. 44 trips per day will be operated in that region to serve mobility during the Lebaran period. Porwanto said service strengthening also covers operational aspects, human resources (HR) and customer service to ensure journeys during the exodus period are safe and comfortable. ‘We are strengthening the operational, HR and customer service aspects so that the public experiences a comfortable and seamless journey,’ he said. In addition, rail-based transportation is regarded as a more efficient and environmentally friendly mobility alternative due to its large capacity and energy efficiency compared with private vehicles. KAI Bandara urges passengers to keep belongings secure and arrive earlier at stations, at least three hours before international flights and two hours before domestic flights. For more information on schedules, fares and ticket bookings, the public can access the official Railink site at www.railink.co.id, or via the company’s official social media channels.
