KAI Apologises for Discomfort at Level Crossing in Padang

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Divre II West Sumatra has apologised to the public, especially road users, for the discomfort caused by conditions at the JPL 21 level crossing on the Tabing-Duku section in Lubuk Buaya, Padang. KAI Divre II West Sumatra Head of Public Relations Reza Shahab stated on Monday that the company understands public concerns regarding the crossing, which becomes slippery during rain, and remains committed to supporting safety improvements through synergy with various parties. “We understand the public’s hope that the condition of the crossing can be addressed immediately. Therefore, KAI continues to communicate and coordinate with all stakeholders so that the handling of the Lubuk Buaya level crossing can be realised promptly for mutual comfort and safety,” he said. According to Reza, safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility requiring support and collaboration from various parties, including the government, relevant authorities, and the public as road users. “We believe that good collaboration is key to delivering safer level crossings. Hence, KAI will continue to strengthen synergy with all stakeholders so that every existing problem can be handled quickly, precisely, and sustainably,” he added. In addition to pushing for accelerated infrastructure handling, KAI is also undertaking various safety improvement efforts through public education, safety socialisation at level crossings, and routine coordination with related agencies to minimise potential accidents. KAI Divre II West Sumatra also urged all road users to always heighten their vigilance when crossing level crossings, particularly at the Lubuk Buaya crossing. Motorcyclists are expected to be more careful, especially during rainy conditions when the road surface becomes slippery and the crossing’s non-perpendicular alignment with the rails potentially increases the risk of vehicles skidding. Road users are also advised to reduce speed when approaching crossings, pay attention to signs and road markings, stop momentarily to ensure conditions are safe before crossing, and always prioritise train journeys. “The discipline and vigilance of all road users are important factors in creating safety at level crossings,” he said. KAI Divre II West Sumatra hopes that increasingly close collaboration among all stakeholders can accelerate efforts to improve safety at level crossings, so the public can enjoy safer, more comfortable, and orderly journeys. “We invite all parties to continue maintaining a spirit of togetherness in realising safe level crossings.
