Jember, East Java — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operations Region 9 Jember has partnered with Bank Indonesia’s Jember Representative Office to launch a new currency exchange service titled “Caring Homecoming” for train passengers at Jember Station in East Java on Monday.

The programme provides convenience for citizens planning to travel home by train for Lebaran 2026, enabling them to obtain newly circulated rupiah notes with a total of 100 exchange packages available.

“This programme offers ease for communities who will travel home using train transportation to obtain fit-for-circulation rupiah notes for Lebaran 2026 needs with a total of 100 packages,” said KAI Operations Region 9 Jember Legal and Communications Manager Cahyo Widiantoro in Jember on Monday.

According to him, the collaboration is part of KAI’s efforts to improve service quality for passengers during the 2026 Lebaran transport period.

“Through collaboration with Bank Indonesia, we want to provide convenience for train passengers who will travel home so they can obtain fit-for-circulation rupiah notes, enabling homecomers to prepare their Lebaran needs more comfortably and safely,” he stated.

To maintain order and ensure optimal service utilisation by homebound travellers, several provisions must be observed when exchanging the new denomination notes.

“Currency exchange is specifically for train passenger departures on Monday, 16 March 2026, namely the Mutiara Timur Optional Train (Ketapang – Surabaya Gubeng), Ijen Express Train (Malang – Ketapang), and Wijayakusuma Train (Ketapang – Cilacap),” he said.

Additionally, passengers must present their boarding pass and booking code to officers, with each booking code valid for one exchange only.

He stated the service also aims to provide an official and fee-free currency exchange alternative, so the public need not worry about unofficial currency exchange practices that often emerge ahead of Lebaran.

“Through the Caring Homecoming Programme, KAI Operations Region 9 Jember together with Bank Indonesia wants to present travel that is not only safe and comfortable, but also provides added value for passengers,” he explained.

KAI Operations Region 9 Jember urges customers planning to travel home by train through Jember Station to utilise the service optimally during the designated implementation period.

Each passenger can obtain a maximum of one package with a total value of Rp5.3 million comprising Rp1,000 denomination notes totalling 1 bundle of 100 sheets, Rp2,000 totalling 1 bundle, Rp5,000 totalling 1 bundle, Rp10,000 totalling 1 bundle, Rp20,000 denomination notes totalling 50 sheets, and Rp50,000 denomination notes totalling 50 sheets.

The programme was utilised not only by KAI Operations Region 9 Jember passengers, but notably several KAI officers also participated in queuing to exchange new denomination notes for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri celebration needs.
