KAI Adds LRT Sumsel Trips for Palembang's 1,343rd Anniversary
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Division III Palembang, in collaboration with the South Sumatra Light Rail Management Office (BPKARSS), is increasing the operational services of the South Sumatra LRT for four days to support the celebrations of the 1,343rd Anniversary of Palembang City.
Aida Suryanti, KAI Regional Division III Palembang Public Relations Manager in Palembang, stated on Saturday that the service addition will be effective from 25 to 28 June 2026. This is an effort to accommodate the increase in public mobility during the series of events for the Palembang City Anniversary and the 7th Year of Gemilang Palembang Raya x Digital Kito Galo.
This measure is also intended to make it easier for the public to utilise public transport during the various celebratory agendas.
“The momentum of the Palembang City Anniversary is expected to be a period of increased public mobility. Therefore, KAI, together with BPKARSS, is providing additional operating hours for the LRT Sumsel so that the public can enjoy the entire series of activities more comfortably without worrying about the availability of public transport,” she said.
She explained that from 25 to 27 June, LRT Sumsel services will be extended until 23:58 WIB. Operations will begin at 05:06 WIB, with the number of trips increased to 98 trips per day from the previous 94 trips.
The last departure from DJKA Station towards Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport will be served until 22:34 WIB, arriving at the Airport Station at 23:13 WIB. Meanwhile, the last trip in the opposite direction will depart from Asrama Haji Station at 23:20 WIB and arrive at DJKA Station at 23:58 WIB.
On Sunday (28/6), the number of trips will be further increased to 102 trips through the addition of eight trips, or four round trips, on the DJKA Station-Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport route.
This increase in trips is expected to provide flexibility for the public who wish to attend various Palembang City Anniversary celebrations without having to use private vehicles.
“We invite the public to utilise the additional LRT Sumsel operational services as a primary transport choice during the Palembang City Anniversary celebrations. In addition to providing safe, comfortable, congestion-free, and punctual travel, the use of public transport is also a tangible form of support for the National Movement to Return to Public Transport,” she explained.
In addition to improving mobility, the use of LRT Sumsel is also considered to support carbon emission reduction efforts, as it uses an electric rail-based mode of transport that is more environmentally friendly than private vehicles.
KAI, together with BPKARSS, is committed to continuously improving the quality of public transport services so that LRT Sumsel becomes the preferred choice for the community, while also supporting the development of a modern, integrated, and sustainable urban transport system in Palembang City.
