KAI Accelerates Evacuation of KA Bangunkarta, Operational Pattern Engineering and Bus Substitute Transport Prepared

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Due to a derailment of train KA (161) Bangunkarta on the Jombang – Pasar Senen route at Bumiayu Station platform, km 312+1, on Monday at 14:15 WIB, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) reports that neither the upstream nor downstream rail lines on that route can be traversed. Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the company extends apologies to all customers for the disruption to their journeys. “This incident has caused disruptions to both upstream and downstream lines, meaning train travel on that route cannot proceed,” said Anne in an official statement on Monday (6/4/2026). “All customers and train crew on board are safe with no fatalities, and the evacuation process at the derailment site is being accelerated with full support from TNI, Polri, and local community elements to restore the line as soon as possible,” Anne added. As a commitment to customer comfort, KAI has prepared swift measures to minimise travel obstacles through the provision of onward transport or transfers. “Ten bus units have been deployed to transport customers to their destination stations or to connect interrupted journeys due to this operational issue,” said Anne. “In addition to substitute transportation, KAI is also providing service recovery in the form of food and drinks to passengers in accordance with company regulations,” Anne continued. She explained that field officers are making every effort to provide assistance and the latest information so that customers remain comfortable during the handling process at the disruption site. To maintain the overall smooth flow of train operations, KAI has established extensive operational pattern engineering for several trains passing through the affected area. Several journeys have been fully cancelled, such as KA Sawunggalih (113 & 116), KA Taksaka (45 & 48), KA Purwojaya (54-55 & 60F-57F), and KA Joglosemarkerto (185-186). Meanwhile, a scheme of partial cancellations and train set exchanges (wet transfers) has been applied on the Prupuk – Purwokerto line for KA Kamandaka, KA Sawunggalih, KA Purwojaya, as well as partial cancellations for KA Ranggajati. KAI has also rerouted several flagship trains such as KA Argo Semeru, Gayabaru Malam Selatan, Progo, and Senja Utama YK via the Kroya – Bandung – Cikampek line, and KA Bima, Manahan, and Jakatingkir via the northern line through Semarang. “We understand that this disruption affects our customers’ travel plans, so track, bridge, and facility unit personnel are continuously working at the derailment site to ensure the line’s readiness meets high safety standards as soon as possible,” Anne concluded.
