PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) reported continued growth in ticket sales for the 2026 Eid holiday transport programme covering the departure period from 11 March to 1 April 2026. As of Monday, 9 March 2026 at 09:00 WIB, 2,398,441 tickets had been sold from the total 4,498,696 seats made available.
“With this achievement, the temporary occupancy rate has reached 53.3 per cent, leaving approximately 2.1 million tickets available for the public to use for homebound travel and return journeys by rail,” said Anne Purba, KAI Vice President of Corporate Communications, in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.
Purba stated that the public still has opportunities to obtain train tickets during this year’s Eid holiday transport period. She urged people to plan their homebound journeys promptly and take advantage of the various schedule options and promotions available to ensure comfortable and smooth travel.
According to preliminary data, Purba said the peak exodus is predicted to occur three days before Eid, with passenger volume reaching 141,946 customers. In detail, long-distance train ticket sales have reached 2,318,050 from a capacity of 3,571,760 seats, representing an occupancy rate of 64.9 per cent.
“Meanwhile, local train ticket sales totalled 80,391 from a capacity of 926,936 seats, or 8.7 per cent,” Purba added.
Purba projected that local train occupancy would continue to increase as local train bookings commence seven days before departure. She noted that several popular destination stations during the 2026 Eid holiday transport period include Yogyakarta Station, Surabaya Pasar Turi, Purwokerto, Semarang Tawang, Bandung, and Surabaya Gubeng stations.
“KAI also reminds the public to take advantage of the 30 per cent fare discount programme available for numerous railway journeys,” Purba continued.
Purba stated that this discount programme is one of KAI’s efforts to provide convenience for the public in planning their homebound journeys using safe, comfortable, and punctual transport. Additionally, Purba said, the People’s Economy Class trains are also a primary choice for passengers, with an average occupancy rate reaching 75 per cent.
“To date, People’s Economy Class train ticket sales have reached 20,444 from a capacity of 27,368 seats, and are estimated to continue increasing towards the peak of the exodus,” Purba said.
