Kagama 2026 Reunion Brings Together Multi-Generational UGM Alumni
More than 1,500 alumni of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and their families gathered for the Kagama 2026 Reunion at the Jakarta International Velodrome, Rawamangun, East Jakarta, on Sunday (30/8/2026). The event, themed “Semarak Sekatenan bersama Kagama”, brought together alumni across generations, ranging from the class of 1968 to 2022.
The Chairperson of the Kagama 2026 Reunion Committee, Yundriati Erdani, explained that the ‘Sekatenan’ theme was chosen because the tradition places all groups on an equal footing. This was reflected in the attendees, which included state officials and entrepreneurs alongside alumni who have only been in the workforce for one or two years.
“Through the festivities of Sekaten, the palace opens itself and draws closer to its people. We adopted that same spirit to bring together alumni from different cohorts, ensuring there is no barrier between seniors, successful professionals, and government officials, and recent graduates,” Yundriati stated in a press release on Thursday (3/9/2026).
The Chairperson of the Kagama DKI Jakarta Regional Board, Anton Mart Irianto, noted that this year’s event marks a continuation after the reunion was absent last year. He emphasised that the tradition of UGM alumni gathering in Jakarta must be maintained.
“Up until our final meeting on 27 August, we were still anxious due to the prevailing conditions. However, the committee members became even more spirited, and today that spirit has been proven. Seeing the enthusiasm of thousands of arriving alumni, I am increasingly convinced that the spirit and bond as the Gadjah Mada big family never fades,” said Anton.
Anton continued, stating that such continuity can only be achieved through collaboration. Kagama DKI Jakarta partnered with the Central Kagama Board, regional Kagama branches, and various other Kagama communities, involving 34 sponsors to support the event.
“This Reunion is not the work of Kagama DKI Jakarta alone, and that is precisely what makes the event feel like it belongs to all alumni,” Anton explained.
The Daily Chairperson of the Central Kagama Board, Budi Karya Sumadi, who attended the event, assessed that alumni gatherings should evolve into benefits for the wider community. He viewed the Reunion as an embodiment of the organisation’s motto.
“‘Guyub rukun migunani’ (harmonious, united, and useful) is our umbrella, and events like this are its manifestation. We must be harmonious, we must be united, and most importantly, as alumni of Universitas Gadjah Mada, we must be useful to our families, the nation, and the wider society,” said Budi Karya.
Yundriati noted that the Reunion also serves as a space for organisational regeneration. She mentioned that many alumni learn about Kagama DKI Jakarta’s activities through such events before becoming involved in Kagama communities.
“We will continue to hold the Reunion, because this is our home to gather, and this is where regeneration takes place,” Yundriati remarked.
In addition to Budi Karya, several prominent UGM alumni attended the event, including Anies Baswedan, Roy Suryo, and Andi Arief. Also present were the Vice Chairperson of the Central Kagama Paripurna, P. Sugarda, and the Vice Rector of UGM, Arie Sujito.
Kagama DKI Jakarta stated that the Reunion will continue to serve as a meeting space for UGM alumni in the capital, while also providing a platform for alumni to contribute to society with the spirit of ‘Guyub, Rukun, Migunani’.
