PSI Party General Chair Kaesang Pangarep conducted a Ramadan pilgrimage visit to Minggir Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes Minggir) in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday, 10 March. Accompanied by PSI Party Daily Chair Ahmad Ali, Kaesang arrived during the breaking of fast and immediately performed the evening Maghrib prayer in congregation. Following prayer, the boarding school’s principal, KH Ahmad Muwafiq (known as Gus Muwafiq), offered a traditional Yogyakarta delicacy: sate klatak.

Gus Muwafiq explained that sate klatak is prepared without added spices, highlighting its natural flavour. Kaesang acknowledged that the meat, cooked using the spokes of a motorcycle wheel, was indeed delicious. “Yogyakarta food is all tasty,” Kaesang remarked.

Ahmad Ali added that visiting Yogyakarta without tasting sate klatak would be incomplete. “It’s a tradition; if you don’t eat sate klatak when visiting here, it means your visit is not complete,” he said. Ahmad Ali further noted that the visit formed part of PSI’s broader agenda of paying respects to Islamic scholars, clerics, and religious leaders. “Our visit to Jogja today is part of a series of courtesy visits to boarding schools during the Ramadan pilgrimage, meeting and seeking advice from the kyai,” he stated.

Minggir Islamic Boarding School is recognised for emphasising character building, deepening religious knowledge, and promoting a simple lifestyle in accordance with the traditional salaf pesantren tradition.
