Kaesang Startled to See More Photos of Jokowi Than Himself at PSI Event: 'Could They Be Planning an Extraordinary Congress to Oust Me?'

Samarinda – Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Chairman Kaesang Pangarep made a jest during the East Kalimantan PSI Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorwil) at the Fugo Hotel Ballroom in Samarinda on Saturday, 20 June 2026. In front of hundreds of PSI cadres, the youngest son of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo admitted he was startled to see that the number of Jokowi photos on display actually outnumbered his own as party chairman. While giving his briefing, Kaesang first evaluated the implementation of the Rakorwil event organised by the East Kalimantan PSI Regional Executive Board. “Allow me to evaluate a few things first. Firstly, the coordination meeting event. The stage is all good, but according to you all, what is wrong?” Kaesang asked. Afterwards, Kaesang pointed out what he considered odd about the arrangement of banners installed at the event venue. According to him, his photo was displayed only once, while Jokowi’s photo appeared twice. “So what’s wrong is that there is only one photo of the chairman, but there are two photos of him,” Kaesang said, laughing. The jest was met with laughter from the cadres present. Kaesang then continued his banter by mentioning the Chairman of the East Kalimantan PSI Regional Board, Andi Wijaya. He joked that Andi Wijaya’s closeness with Jokowi might mean he was planning to hold an Extraordinary Congress (KLB). “I don’t know, maybe Chairman AW has some movement going on with him (Jokowi). He just finished his duties at the HIPMI National Conference. Could it be he wants to hold a KLB to oust me,” Kaesang remarked. At the event, Andi Wijaya appeared accompanied by East Kalimantan PSI Regional Board Secretary Tony Suprayugo and Treasurer Merlyn Getty. Meanwhile, Kaesang arrived with several members of the PSI Central Executive Board, including PSI General Treasurer Fenty Noverita, PSI Central Board Chair for Political Affairs Bestari Barus, PSI Central Board Chair for Witness Affairs Benediktus Papa, PSI Central Board Chair for Regional Head Development Wiryawan, and senior politician Rusdi Masse Mappasessu. Besides sharing jokes with cadres, Kaesang also provided strategic direction and specific instructions regarding PSI’s future political agendas.
