Kaesang Says Now is the Time for Unity, Not Political Manoeuvres

Jakarta – The Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Kaesang Pangarep, stated that criticism is a normal and essential part of democracy. However, he regretted instances where criticism is delivered in ways that could potentially muddy the situation. This statement was made in response to the open criticism voiced by Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK). “In democracy, criticism is commonplace. But what we need right now is a calming atmosphere, not statements that could cause uproar,” he said on Monday, 13 April 2026. He invited all national figures to jointly build a soothing narrative and strengthen public trust. According to Kaesang, amid a society that requires certainty, leaders should present themselves as part of the solution. “Indonesia today does not need political manoeuvres to weaken each other. What is needed is unity and cooperation, working side by side with the people to overcome various challenges,” he said.
