Wamena, VIVA – The General Chairman of PSI, Kaesang Pangarep, once again visited Papua Pegunungan and attended the Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorwil) of PSI Papua Pegunungan on Friday, 8 May 2026.

During his visit, Kaesang also inaugurated the Deputy Regent of Tolikara, Yotam Wonda, as the Chairman of the PSI Papua Pegunungan Provincial Board. Kaesang’s arrival in Wamena was joyfully welcomed with the traditional Aster dance of the Dani tribe in the Baliem Valley area.

The welcoming atmosphere was warm and full of enthusiasm from party cadres and the local community. Yotam Wonda admitted to being moved by the arrival of the son of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo to Papua Pegunungan.

“At the airport earlier, I felt very moved when I saw Mas Kaesang arrive and set foot in this Baliem Valley,” said Yotam Wonda.

According to Yotam, Kaesang’s visit to Papua Pegunungan is a relatively rare occurrence for national figures or party leaders.

“According to the information earlier, this is the second time Mas Kaesang has come to Papua Pegunungan, and it is rarely done by other party leaders or children of former state leaders. I see simplicity in Mas Kaesang’s persona,” stated Yotam Wonda.

In his address to the PSI Papua Pegunungan cadres, Kaesang emphasised that Papua holds a special place for his family. He mentioned that his family often visits various regions in Papua.

“Believe me, ladies and gentlemen, our family often visits Papua, all the provinces in Papua, because we truly love the people of Papua,” said Kaesang.

Kaesang also touched on the importance of equitable infrastructure development in Papua. According to him, the people of Papua must be able to experience development and facilities on par with other regions in Indonesia, including Java Island.

“We also want the people of Papua to experience what the people on Java Island experience in terms of infrastructure,” he stated.
