Kadipaten Pakualaman's Sewandanan Market Returns This Weekend
Commemorating the 214th Hadeging Kadipaten Pakualaman, the Kadipaten Pakualaman is once again holding the Sewandanan Market this weekend. A variety of vintage culinary offerings, a low-cost market, and performances are presented at this event. The Kadipaten Pakualaman itself was established on 22 June 1812. This year, the Hadeging Kadipaten Pakualaman carries the theme ‘Rinarasing Astuti Nir Ing Sikara’, which embodies the importance of building inner and outer harmony through prayer, gratitude, and hopes offered sincerely to God Almighty. ‘Rinarasing Astuti Nir Ing Sikara depicts the belief that prayers offered with sincerity of heart will bring harmony to life,’ explained the General Chairman of the 214th Hadeging Kadipaten Pakualaman, Bendara Pangeran Haryo (BPH) Kusumo Bimantoro, at Pura Pakualaman on Wednesday evening (17/6/2026). This year’s celebration is divided into two events: social service in Kulon Progo Regency and the Sewandanan Market as the peak event at Alun-Alun Sewandanan, Pura Pakualaman. For the social service, the Dharma Mulyarja social activity titled ‘Healthy Nutrition for Stunting Babies and Health Socialisation for Pregnant Women’ was held on Saturday (6/6) in Kapanewon Girimulyo, Kulon Progo Regency. There is also the Dharma Mulyarja social service: Mass Circumcision. This completely free mass circumcision activity for the public will be held tomorrow (18/6) at the Kulon Progo Regent’s Official Residence in Terbah, Wates, Kulon Progo. Residents only need to attend the event to receive free circumcision services. ‘For the Dharma Mulyarja event, we have been to Kulon Progo Regency several times,’ explained BPH Kusumo. The second series of events is the annual Sewandanan Market with the title ‘Sowing Classic Tastes, Harvesting Authentic Economic Activity’. This event also collaborates with the DIY Agriculture and Food Security Agency (DPKP), the Cooperatives and SMEs Agency, SiBakul Jogja, and the DIY Culture Agency. ‘This Sewandanan Market, in terms we often hear, is a nostalgia market,’ explained BPH Kusumo. More than 40 selected tenants present a variety of vintage culinary delights, local handicrafts, and a Low-Cost Food Bazaar facility on 20 and 21 June 2026 at Alun-Alun Sewandanan, Pura Pakualaman. ‘The Low-Cost Food Bazaar facility aims to help meet the basic needs of the community at affordable prices,’ said BPH Kusumo. In addition, a variety of traditional entertainment is available daily, including the ‘Klasik Asik’ Jathilan Festival, which serves as a platform for jathilan studios and artists to showcase their skills competing for a total coaching prize of Rp 27 million. Then on Sunday (21/6), the Mlampah Guyub Sesarengan #5 will be held as the peak of the celebration. This public and free healthy walk starts at 5.30 am.
