REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) welcomes the appointment of Jumhur Hidayat as Minister of Environment (LH). The industrial sector places great hopes on Jumhur’s leadership, which is assessed to have a strong understanding of manufacturing sector dynamics after years of involvement as a labour union figure and strategic industrial partner.

Deputy Chairman of Kadin for the Industrial Sector Saleh Husin, on Wednesday (29/4/2026), while attending the handover of the Minister of LH position from Hanif Faisol to Jumhur Hidayat at the Ministry of LH office, stated that Jumhur’s experience in the world of employment and industrial relations serves as important capital to maintain a balance between environmental interests and industrial sustainability.

According to him, Jumhur understands how the wheels of the manufacturing industry operate and the challenges faced by business actors in maintaining productivity and efficiency.

“The industrial world hopes that under Pak Jumhur’s leadership, environmental policies will run in tandem with the needs of economic growth,” said the former Minister of Industry.

The government, he added, needs to ensure the timely availability of industrial raw materials and facilitate the licensing process so as not to cause high economic costs. The management of recycled raw materials and industrial waste, Saleh continued, should be viewed as an economic opportunity, not merely a burden.

The utilisation of recycled raw materials from waste is seen as aligned with the global trend towards a circular economy as well as efforts to achieve net zero emission targets through the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle. In this context, no material should be wasted in vain, but rather recycled into value-added resources.

According to Saleh, if such policies are implemented consistently, the competitiveness of the national industry will be further strengthened. Ultimately, this will drive the creation of new jobs and strengthen the foundation of national economic growth.

“We are optimistic that with the synergy between environmental policies and industrial needs, the economic growth targets expected by President Prabowo Subianto will be achieved,” he stated.

Kadin also conveyed congratulations to Minister of Environment Jumhur Hidayat and hopes that his leadership will be able to address increasingly complex global challenges, including the current unstable global economic pressures.

“Once again, congratulations to Minister Jumhur. We hope he succeeds in carrying out his duties ahead, amidst the challenging dynamics of the global economy,” Saleh concluded.
