Kadin Stresses Strengthening Economic Diplomacy to Boost Indonesian Investment

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has stressed the importance of strengthening economic diplomacy as a strategy to boost investment and trade amid global economic dynamics. The affirmation was delivered by Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie during the Kadin Monthly Economic Diplomatic Breakfast, which featured Foreign Minister Sugiono as the keynote speaker in Jakarta on Friday. In an official statement, Anindya said economic diplomacy is a crucial instrument for reinforcing Indonesia’s position on the global stage. He noted that business sector involvement in the government’s economic diplomacy agenda has become increasingly open under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Foreign Minister Sugiono. “This is the best form of economic diplomacy. There are not many opportunities where the government and the business sector can move together to advance national economic interests. Kadin greatly appreciates the government’s openness in involving the private sector in various international economic diplomacy agendas,” Anindya said. He cited President Prabowo’s state visit to France, which involved Kadin in a business-to-business (B2B) agenda. During the visit, Kadin and its French partners established the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council as a platform for long-term collaboration between business actors from both countries. According to Anindya, the forum successfully brought together major companies from Indonesia and France with a combined market capitalisation of 1.3 trillion US dollars. The meeting resulted in new business agreements worth 3.5 billion US dollars, adding to an existing investment commitment of 11 billion US dollars achieved during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Indonesia in 2025. Kadin continues to develop initiatives such as the We Buy From Indonesia programme to promote national products that are already part of the global supply chain, as well as the Kadin Export Academy to enhance the capacity of national businesses to penetrate export markets. Foreign Minister Sugiono affirmed that economic diplomacy is an inseparable part of the government’s efforts to fulfil its constitutional mandate to protect all Indonesian people and improve public welfare. He said the government continues to encourage international economic cooperation based on principles of mutual respect, mutual benefit, and a focus on improving people’s welfare. “We want to cooperate with all parties in the economic field based on principles of mutual respect and mutual appreciation to achieve shared benefits that can be used for the prosperity and welfare of the people,” Sugiono said. He added that the high interest from companies in various countries to invest and participate in Indonesia’s economic development reflects strong international confidence in the national economic outlook.
