JAKARTA – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is pushing for strengthened economic cooperation with the Republic of Chile, particularly in the agricultural sector. This aligns with efforts to expand mutually beneficial trade and investment partnerships between the two countries.

Kadin Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie conveyed this during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Indonesia, Mario Ignacio Artaza Loyola, in Jakarta on Thursday. The bilateral meeting aimed to discuss various strategic cooperation opportunities in the agricultural sector.

Anindya views the Republic of Chile as an important partner for Indonesia, especially given its experience as a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which can serve as a reference for boosting investments.

“Chile is very attractive because the Republic of Chile has joined the OECD. That means, of course, benefits in terms of investment, as the OECD includes many countries that trust higher investment standards, and this can bring us the additional investment we need, which translates to jobs and more,” said Anin, his familiar nickname, as quoted from his statement on Friday, 24 April 2026.

On that occasion, Anin emphasised that both countries already have a strong foundation for cooperation through their membership in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) as well as the Indonesia-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IC-CEPA), which needs to be continually optimised. Agricultural cooperation is a primary focus, particularly regarding the potential import of live cattle from Chile to support domestic needs.

“We have the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement from 2017 that we want to enhance. We export a lot of automotive components and footwear, but we also receive many agricultural products, including efforts to import cattle, live cattle, to help with milk and protein for the Free Nutritious Meals programme,” explained Anin.

Meanwhile, the Chilean Ambassador to Indonesia, Mario Ignacio Artaza Loyola, expressed optimism about enhancing economic relations between the two countries, both in trade and investment. “We want to strengthen the existing cooperation and encourage more active trade moving forward,” he said.
